Mike Pearson takes a look at the first text of the 2024 farm bill legislation.

The U.S. House of Representatives Ag Committee passed the farm bill for a full vote after 13 hours of debate.

Some democrats on the ag committee crossed over and voted with the republicans for the farm bill legislation.

Others are concerned saying the bill may have made it out of committee but it might not have a future in front of it.

Some legislators are upset because the legislation will call for a cut in SNAP benefits.

Other concerns include subsidy support, commodity prices and the ag secretary's control over the credit corporation for farmers.

The road ahead for the farm remains challenging with the U.S. Senate having a very different idea for the legislation and both houses will have to iron out the details to get one piece of legislation.

Farm Progress America is a daily look at key issues in agriculture. It is produced and presented by Mike Pearson, farm broadcaster and host of This Week in Agribusiness.
