High-capacity, off-roading side-by-side utility vehicles get added versatility with accessories, but what to pick? Polaris has teamed up with four experts to select UTVs with special packages of accessories. The image shows the four experts. Starting top left is Mark Bowe, with the Craftsman Collection. Bowe is host and producer of the DIY Network’s “Barnwood Builders” and suggests eight accessories targeted to those who “take matters into their own hands,” Polaris says. Top right is Trevor Brazile, veteran American rodeo champion, who picked the Ranch Collection. It includes 10 accessories that ranch owners may need, including the Pro HD 6,000-pound Winch with Rapid Rope Recovery. Bottom left is Tony Vandemore, waterfowl hunter and co-owner of Habitat Flats. He selected the Waterfowl Collection with eight accessories, including the Pro Armor Mud XC tires for go-anywhere traction. And bottom right are professional hunters Lee and Tiffany Lakosky. They’re shown with the Big Game collection, which has seven accessories including the Lock & Ride Grip Pro. You can learn all about these four collections at polaris.com/rangercollections.
GO BIG OR GO HOME
Logistics can be a significant challenge during the busy harvest season. One tool that can help is a grain cart, allowing unloading on the go from the combine while getting grain from field to semi to elevator or storage. Unverferth Manufacturing. Co. has rolled out the new 2596 Brent Avalanche grain cart with a 2,500-bushel capacity. The unit has a 1,000-bushel-per-minute unload speed, a pivoting auger with 4 feet of height and reach adjustability, and a four-way adjustable downspout for unloading ease. The dual-auger, low-profile design makes for easy filling, and steep-sloped sides make easy work of handling high-moisture grain. The cart is equipped with Equalizer tracks with 50-inch-wide by 148-inch long, one-piece molded tracks. Tracks pivot fore and aft, and side to side to maximize ground contact over rough terrain, but keep ground pressure to 16.2 psi. The 2596 joins four other models in the Avalanche line. NEW CROP PROTECTION TECH
Howard F. Schwartz, Colorado State University, bugwood.org
Vive Crop Protection is making legacy products more effective. Its latest product is Averland FC, a nematicide-insecticide effective on pests like the Colorado potato beetle shown. Averland FC has the active ingredient abamectin, which in this formulation can now be mixed with fertilizer (and remain stable). The product can be applied in-furrow in corn, which can provide nematode control. The product can also be used to control leaf miners, potato psyllids and spider mites. NEW FEED BOX
Kuhn Knight has introduced the new ProFeed PF100 Series delivery boxes. The boxes are suited for many large farms, feedlots and ranches, to feed more cows per load. There are two models — the PF 1130 and PF 1145, both available with 5.5-inch and 17.75-inch extensions. Capacities range from 1,000 cubic feet to 1,450 cubic feet, each with a 50,000-pound maximum net load rating. The units feature a twin-auger design for fast, thorough cleanout. The PF 100 Series comes standard with a four-auger discharge. Learn more at kuhn.com.
The Crary Revolution Ditcher gets new features for 2019. The unit gets more ground clearance for transport, with 18 inches of clearance, and it comes standards with a 190-rpm, 6.5-foot-diameter impeller for rock and high-volume output. The Ditcher can throw dirt up to 165 feet in either of two directions, and it can leave a 10-inch-deep, 5-foot-wide, flat-bottom ditch. The machine already had the heaviest planetary gearbox in the market, and now it has a driveline clutch rated to 30,000 inch-pounds. There are a range of options for the machine, too. Step-N-Secure has launched a new pickup accessory to add safety and security to the beds of Ford, GM and Ram pickup trucks. The product, secured in a truck bed stake hole, gives users a dual-purpose handle for stepping into the bed and a raised tiedown for securing loads. Suggested list price is $29.99. NEW CUTTER BAR
Kuhn North America has introduced the Optidisc Elite Cutterbar. The new design has a lower profile than its predecessor. It provides a smooth, clean cut with minimal ash incorporation due to the flat cutter-bar angle. The differential disk spacing uses narrower spacing at the diverging disks for extra knife overlap, creating a clean cut even in short or light grass. Wider spacing of converging disks offers more space for the crop to pass, improving cut quality. The new cutter bar is available on select Kuhn GMD mowers and FC mower-conditioners. KEEPING IT CLEAN
The transfer of disease through foot traffic is a challenge in the food processing business as well as on farms. The new HACCP SmartStep2 Walk-Through Footwear Sanitizing Unit from Best Sanitizers Inc. is part of the newest family of products from the company. This allows workers to keep footwear clean when moving around a facility. The design allows for faster pass-through by users while taking up minimal space. The design uses a low amount of product per user pass, keeping costs down. Learn more at bit.ly/smartstep2.
