HELPING STUDENTS: The North Dakota Grain Dealers Foundation awarded $1,000 scholarships to eight college students.belchonock/iStock/Thinkstock

Eight students from North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming will each receive $1,000 scholarships from the North Dakota Grain Dealers Educational Foundation. They are studying agriculture at North Dakota colleges and universities. The scholarship winners, the colleges they are attending and their field of study are:

• Kenzie Volochenko, Balfour, N.D., Bismarck State College, agriculture industry and technology

• Trey Fischbach, Moorcroft, Wyo., Dickinson State University, agricultural studies

• Kendra Klosterman, Mooreton, N.D., North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, agriculture transfer

• Jakob Schmid, Oberon, N.D., North Dakota State University, agricultural economics

• Mackenzie Derry, Thompson, N.D., NDSU, crop and weed sciences

• Cody Durbin, Crary, N.D., NDSU, crop and weed sciences

• MaKayla Heinz, Brocket, N.D., NDSU, crop and weed sciences

• Molly Holt, Ralph, S.D., NDSU, crop and weed sciences

The foundation has awarded more than $220,000 in scholarships and instructional aid grants over the past 37 academic years.

Students interested in applications for next year's scholarship should contact the foundation office at 1325 23rd Street S., Suite A, Fargo, ND 58103-3723.

The foundation also awarded grants of $750 to the North Dakota State School of Science’s Agriculture Department for the purchase of sound equipment for classrooms, and $750 to the NDSU School of Natural Resource Sciences for the purchase of a classroom soil fertility test kit.

Foundation elections
Steve Hepper, grain merchandiser, Hubbard Feeds, Bismarck, N.D., and Joe Peterson, operations manager, CHS-SunPrairie, Bowbells, N.D., were recently elected president and vice president, respectively, of the North Dakota Grain Dealers Foundation.

Re-elected as directors were Alex Richard, grain division manager, Maple River Grain and Agronomy; Elton Solseng, retired instructor, NDSU agricultural systems management; Steve Strege, retired executive vice president of the North Dakota Grain Dealers Association; and Kenan Layden, ag instructor, Bismarck State College.

Stuart Letcher and Cheryal Welle, both of Fargo, N.D., serve as the foundation's vice president and executive assistant, respectively, and hold the same offices with the association.
