Here are three events occurring next week that are worth your time to attend. Study the following descriptions and obtain more information, if necessary.

• South Central Indiana Forage Tour. Keith Johnson, Purdue University Extension forage specialist, says this multiple-stop bus tour in Dubois and Harrison counties will be valuable to anyone raising forage or livestock. The networking opportunities alone make it worth your time, he emphasizes.

The tour is July 25. Operations to be visited include Sander Processing, Fischer Farms by video, 3-D Valley Beef and the Southern Indiana Purdue Ag Center.

Cost is $20 for the entire day. Act quickly if you are interested in this one. Registration is due to Johnson by July 18. Contact Johnson at [email protected], or call 765-494-4800. Gather at the Dubois County Fairgrounds on Indiana Highway 162 near Huntingburg at 8:15 a.m. EDT. The tour returns to the fairgrounds at 5:45 p.m.

• Central Indiana Field Day. During the 2017 Central Indiana Field Day in the tri-county area of Clinton, Howard and Tipton counties, speakers will talk to attendees about a wide range of topics to improve various aspects of farm production. Discussions will include recent research on weeds, entomology and cover crops; the use of field data in farming; and best practices with solar panels.

The event, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 26 at McKinney and McKinney Inc. in Kempton, is sponsored by Precision Planting.

Several Purdue Extension speakers and others from private industry will cover a variety of topics related to the growing season and crop management. Contact the Clinton County Extension office to make sure there is still room for you to attend.

• 2017 Purdue Soybean Showcase. Marshall Martin, director of the Purdue Soybean Center, invites anyone who grows soybeans to visit the Soybean Showcase on July 27.

This is the third showcase for soybeans to be held at the Purdue Agronomy Center for Research and Education near West Lafayette. It’s become an event held every other year to update farmers and others about the latest research going on with soybeans at Purdue, Martin notes. Plant breeders and others involved in research on soybeans will be on hand to provide updates on their latest findings.

Register by July 17 (today), if at all possible. To register, contact Martin at [email protected], or call 765-494-8365. The program begins at 8:30 a.m. EDT and concludes by 2:30 p.m.
