The LSU College of Agriculture announced the appointment of Bruce Cameron as the new head of the Department of Textiles, Apparel Design and Merchandising.

Since 2012, Cameron has served as head of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Wyoming where he has spent his career.

Cameron is a native of Australia and received his bachelor’s and doctorate degrees in textile technology from the University of New South Wales in Sydney. A week after earning his Ph.D., Cameron joined the faculty of the University of Wyoming as a visiting professor.

Six years later he took a tenure track position, and over the years he has risen in the ranks of his department.

He will start at LSU July 2.

“Initially, what drew my eye to this position was the chance to get back to my roots in textiles,” he said of the LSU appointment.

Cameron’s plans for the Department of Textiles, Apparel Design and Merchandising include achieving accreditation for the department from the Textiles and Apparel Programs Accreditation Commission.

“I want to develop a self-study that includes curriculum mapping, see what we need, where holes are and determine how to fill them,” Cameron said.

He also looks to expand department technology available to faculty and students.

Cameron brings with him extensive research in the scholarship of teaching, including a focus on online distance education. His background also includes research on wool.
