The latest Arizona Agri-Weekly report from the National Agricultural Statistics Service in Phoenix, Ariz., released Oct. 17, 2011.
Field crops
Nearly all of Arizona’s cotton acreage has open bolls. Harvesting is 25 percent complete, below the five-year average of 28. The condition of the cotton crop varies from fair to excellent.
Alfalfa condition is mostly fair to good. Harvesting is active on more than two-thirds of the acreage.
Vegetable, fruit, and specialty crops
Arizona growers shipped cantaloupes, honeydews, and lemons.
Weather summary
Temperatures were mostly above normal for the week ending Oct. 16 ranging from 3 degrees below normal at Canyon De Chelly to 7 degrees above normal at Prescott.
The highest temperature of the week was 103 degrees at Paloma. The lowest reading was 25 degrees at Grand Canyon.
There was no precipitation the week of Oct. 17 across Arizona. Roll and Tucson are the only weather stations with above normal precipitation for the year. The weather station at Maricopa reports 31 percent of normal.
