Northeast Ag Expo Field Day set for July 27

Corn, grain sorghum and double crop wheat and soybeans will be the focus of the Northeast Ag Expo field day set for Thursday, July 27 at R&R Farms in Belvidere, N.C.

Corn, grain sorghum and double crop wheat and soybeans will be the focus of the Northeast Ag Expo field day set for Thursday, July 27 at R&R Farms in Belvidere, N.C.

Experts from North Carolina State University and Virginia Tech will present at the field day at R & R Farms located at 161  Riddick Road in Belvidere. Registration, breakfast, and a trade show for the field day will begin at 8 a.m. with the program beginning at 9 a.m. followed by the tour and concluding with a catered lunch.

Ron Heiniger will address maximizing corn yields and early emergence while Carl Crozier will speak on corn starter fertilizer nitrogen and phosphorus management.  Angela Post and Scott Tilley will discuss  high vs. low management sorghum and production by variety” while Ryan Heiniger will present the early and late season official sorghum variety trials. Wes Everman will speak on grain sorghum weed management.

For double crop wheat/soybeans, David Holshouser with Virginia Tech will discuss high moisture wheat harvest while Dominic Reisig will offer insights on double crop soybean insect management.

The Northeast Ag Expo Team consists of a 6-county NC Cooperative Extension group located in northeastern North Carolina. This 6-county team includes Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans Counties.
