Entering the American Soybean Association (ASA) Conservation Legacy Awards program is a great way for soybean producers to tell America about their outstanding and innovative environmental and conservation practices. The application deadline is Friday, Aug. 5, and ASA is encouraging soybean producers to submit their farm for consideration.

Growers using reduced-tillage systems, such as no-till, strip-till, minimum-till or other conservation practices are encouraged to submit an entry. Growers who enter the 2012 Conservation Legacy Awards program will be educating fellow producers by demonstrating how to implement strong conservation and stewardship practices that are both environmentally friendly and economically profitable.

Nominees will be evaluated on the following criteria: cropland management practices, farmstead protection conservation and environmental management. Applications for the Conservation Legacy Awards have been mailed to all ASA members, but you can complete an online application now.

There will be three regional winners, who together with a spouse or guest will receive an expense-paid trip for two to Commodity Classic in Nashville, TN, March 1-3, 2012. Regional winners will be recognized at the ASA banquet, where one of them will be announced as the national winner. All winners will be featured in an issue of Corn & Soybean Digest magazine.
