Rabobank has released the results of its annual “We Didn’t See That Coming” survey, which surveys more than 200 food industry leaders.

Among the responses was a focus on “Big Food.”

What are the food industry leaders saying about Big Food?

There’s a lack of innovation among the big food companies, which makes room for entrepreneurial start-ups.

Big players are focused too much on mergers and acquisitions with questionable returns.

There was consistent criticism that many larger food companies are failing to connect with consumers and instead defend the status quo.

“Big food companies seem to be confused how to move forward.”

Some recognized the “acceleration of the awareness of food corporates regarding the food tech revolution” and the “numerous initiatives we’ve seen in the last year.”
