Dan Seale of Lubbock, Texas, was re-elected Precinct One District Director for the High Plains Underground Water Conservation District (HPWD), according to unofficial returns from the Nov. 6 general election.
Unofficial results show Seale with 39,209 votes to 18,058 votes for Paul Bjerk of Lubbock. Bjerk is an associate professor of history at Texas Tech University. Seale, a retired HPWD employee, will serve a second four-year term representing the portion of Crosby County above the Caprock Escarpment within the district, all of Lubbock County, and all of Lynn County.
The Board of Directors will canvass the election returns and declare the results official during a special meeting on Nov. 20 at 1:30 p.m. at the HPWD office, 2930 Avenue Q, in Lubbock.
Created in 1951 by local residents and the Texas Legislature, the High Plains Water District works to conserve, preserve, protect, and prevent the waste of underground water within its 16-county service area. HPWD is the first groundwater conservation district created in Texas.
