An upcoming Farm Energy Day program will provide an overview of sustainable and renewable energy issues as they relate to farmers and landowners and will cover potential solutions that can offset system costs.

The program will be held April 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mercer County Extension Office, 463 North Perry Highway, Mercer, Pa.

Special attention will be given to two topics: energy efficiency and biogas production on the farm.

The morning program will consist of workshops covering everything from future energy trends and opportunities to electricity efficiency on the farm.

The program will also showcase two operations that have successfully implemented alternative energy programs. The first visit will be to Carey Cooper Farm to look at their solar power and natural gas systems. The second visit will be to Fairview Cheese plant to see their “renewable natural gas” digester.

The cost of the workshop is $10 per person and the registration deadline is April 10.
