Monsanto has announced limited availability of Dekalb brand Genuity SmartStax RIB complete corn, a single-bag solution for refuge management.

Dekalb Genuity SmartStax RIB Complete corn combines a blend of 95 percent Dekalb Genuity SmartStax corn seed and 5 percent refuge (non-Bt) seed for farmers in the Corn Belt.  This technology eliminates the need for a separate, structured refuge when planted across a whole field.

This option follows the Environmental Protection Agency’s registration of Genuity SmartStax RIB Complete, which will be available in limited demonstration quantities across the Corn Belt for planting this spring, followed by a full commercial launch planned for the 2012 growing season.  Commercialization is pending individual state authorizations and notifications, as required.

Dekalb plans to supplement Genuity SmartStax RIB Complete with Dekalb brand Genuity VT Double PRO RIB Complete corn, which is planned for introduction in 2012, pending EPA regulatory approval.  It is targeted for geographies where corn rootworm is less of an issue.
