The 2014 Almond Conference got started Tuesday afternoon in Sacramento, Calif. with more than 2,000 people expected to attend.

Kicking off the annual event was the announcement of a report by UC Davis on the economic impacts of the almond industry in California. That report indicates that the industry generates over $11 billion in value-added dollars to the state's economy through the production, processing and marketing of almonds.

The event will include information on research and university trials aimed at improving almond yields in California.

The conference features a large trade show and will end Thursday evening with a gala and entertainment.
