Matt and Paula Loewe are named Farm Family of the Year; Sylvia Wolters, of Pipestone System, is Agribusiness Citizen of the Year.

The Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce has named the Matt and Paula Loewe family as the 2018 Farm Family of the Year. Sylvia Wolters was also named as the 2018 Agri-Business Citizen of the Year. 

Matt and Paula Loewe and their daughters, Madeline, Kathryn and Allison, farm near Lennox, South Dakota. The Loewes manage nearly 1,000 acres of crop and pasture land. They grow corn, soybeans, and rye and feed cattle. Matt Loewe teaches a class for South Dakota State University and offers tours of the farm as an educational opportunity.

Sylvia Wolters is the director of public relations for Pipestone System, a sow management company. She focuses on consumer outreach and educating the public about modern agriculture practices. Wolters was instrumental in the creation of the Pipestone Discovery Barn at the Sioux Empire Fair. 

The Chamber’s Agri-Business Division sponsors the Farm Family of the Year and Agri-Business Citizen of the Year awards in recognition of the importance of agriculture to the Sioux Falls area and the state. A subcommittee of the Agri-Business Division nominates deserving families and agri-business citizens to be considered for the award, and the voting members of the Agri-Business Division Advisory Council select the winners.
