Circle Jan. 10 and plan to be at the Beck’s Center near West Lafayette, Ind. Purdue University’s Top Farmer Conference will be hosted by the Center for Commercial Agriculture at the Purdue Agronomy Center for Research and Education.

“The 2020 Top Farmer Conference was developed to address concerns producers and agribusiness professionals may face in the coming year and help them identify strategies to position their operations for future success,” says Jim Mintert, Purdue Extension agricultural economist and the center director.

The daylong event will be packed with ag economists, crop specialists and climatologists from Purdue, other universities and the industry. Eric Snodgrass from Nutrien Ag Solutions and the University of Illinois will lay out the challenges of dealing with weather and climate impacts on crop production.

If you want to get an early start on 2020, a half-day pre-conference event called Ag Survivor will be held at the same location on Jan. 9, Mintert says. This workshop will provide hands-on experience in developing strategies for managing risk in your operation. It’s conducted by a team of faculty members from Wyoming University and the University of Nebraska.

The conference itself will also focus on long- and short-term ag outlooks, and farm program comparisons as farm bill decisions loom in mid-March.
