UA, CSUF professors honored

Well-known agricultural professors honored by professional society Silvertooth, Roberts and Srinivasan

Agricultural professors from the University of Arizona (UA) and California State University, Fresno (CSUF) widely known for their research and Extension work have been selected as Fellows in the American Society of Agronomy.

Jeff Silvertooth from UA and Bruce Roberts and Ganesan Srinivasan from CSUF are among 17 Fellows to be honored at the ASA’s annual meeting in Long Beach, Calif., Oct. 31-Nov. 3.

Silvertooth is professor and head of the Soil, Water and Environmental Science Department at the University of Arizona. He received a bacherlor's degree from Kansas State University and master's and doctoral degrees from Oklahoma State University. His program is directed towards the agronomic, environmental, and economic optimization of irrigated soil-plant systems. Silvertooth teaches courses in soil and plant sciences and directs Extension education programs throughout the desert Southwest and internationally. He is the former Arizona state Extension cotton specialist.

Roberts is the J.G. Boswell Chair of Agronomy and associate professor in the Plant Science Department at CSUF where he divides his time between teaching classes and conducting applied research. Before joining the faculty, he spent 22 years as the University of California Cooperative Extension Agronomy and Cotton Farm advisor and county director in Kings County. He is a past president of the California Chapter of the American Society of Agronomy.

Srinivasan is the director of University Agricultural Laboratory at CSUF. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, India, as well as a doctorate from the University of Hawaii and an MBA from Purdue University. Before joining Fresno State in 2005, Srinivasan served as principal scientist and associate director of Maize Program at CIMMYT, Mexico. During his 15 years of service in international agriculture, he developed hundreds of improved maize germplasm that are widely grown around the world.
