Steve Powles says the lack of diversity in agriculture in the United States, South America and in his native Australia is leading to an increasing number of documented cases of herbicide resistance in those areas. In Australia, where farmers typically plant wheat, followed by wheat, followed by wheat, several herbicides are no longer effective on problem weeds. Dr. Powles discussed these developments in a presentation at the Pan-American Weed Resistance Conference in Miami.
