Nominations for the 2013 Louisiana Farmer of the Year award are being accepted now through Jan. 4.

Application forms can be obtained at any LSU AgCenter parish extension office or online here.

“While much of the country suffered through drought, our farmers were able to help fill in the gap by producing exceptional crops including a record yield for soybeans,” said LSU AgCenter Chancellor Bill Richardson. “Louisiana agriculture continues to play an essential economic role in the state and local economies.”

Other sponsors of the competition include the Louisiana Radio Network, Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. Producers from all areas of agriculture are eligible to enter.

Three finalists will be recognized at White Oak Plantation in Baton Rouge on Feb. 28, 2013, with the winner receiving a cash award and other prizes.

This is the sixteenth year of presenting the Louisiana Farmer of the Year award. Last year’s winner was Hank Rabb, a cotton and corn farmer from St. Joseph in Tensas Parish.
