Smithfield Names New Pork Team

New executives for company's pork group.

Smithfield Foods Inc. announced Thursday that Joseph W. Luter IV, who has been in several company positions since 1993 and currently is president of Smithfield Packing Co., has been named executive vice president of Smithfield Foods and will concentrate on marketing and sales.

The company also said George H. Richter, who has been president of the Farmland Foods division, has been named president and chief operating officer of the pork group. The president of the five Smithfield pork processing divisions will report to Richter, the announcement said.

Tim Schellpeper, currently Farmland senior vice president of operations, will become president of Smithfield Packing, succeeding Luter, and James C. Sbarro, currently Farmland senior vice president, will become president of Farmland, succeeding Richter, the announcement said.
