Southern San Joaquin Valley Almond Day is Feb. 12

The Southern San Joaquin Almond Day is slated for the morning of Feb. 12, at the Kearney Agricultural Center (KAC) in Parlier, Calif.

The program includes:

8:00 a.m. - Introduction, PCA and continuing education credits sign-up – Brent Holtz, Farm Advisor, University of California (UC) Cooperative Extension (UCCE), Madera County

8:30 - Insect pest management in almond orchards – Walter Bentley, areawide UC Integrated Pest Management Advisor, Kearney Ag Center

9:00 - Replant disease management for almond and peach – David Doll, Farm Advisor, UCCE Merced County

9:30 - Kaolin-processed clay on almond bud failure and yield – Brent Holtz, Farm Advisor, UCCE Madera County

10:00 - Break

10:30 - Almond canopy management with regard to pruning and spacing – Roger Duncan, Farm Advisor, UCCE, Stanislaus County

11:00 - Lower limb dieback, band canker, stigmatomycosis, and association of NOW with aflatoxin – Themis Michailides, Plant Pathologist, UC Davis/KAC

11:30 - Matrix, tree, and vine herbicide: performance and crop safety update – Ron Vargas, UCCE Advisor Emeritus, Ron Vargas Consulting LLC

Noon - Free lunch courtesy of the Almond Board of California, UC, Dow AgroSciences, Tessenderlo Kerley, Syngenta, and Bayer Crop Science.

2.0 hours of PCA, CCA, and Private Applicators Credit have been requested.
