Minnesota county fairs receive grants

Compeer Financial awarded $66,000 to 22 fair organizations.

Twenty-two county fairs across Minnesota are the beneficiaries of facility upgrade grants from the Compeer Financial Fund for Rural America, the corporate giving program of Compeer Financial.

Fifty-five grants were awarded totaling $66,000.

County fair boards and affiliated fair groups received grants of $2,750 to $3,000 each.

Recipients of the funding include:

  • Aitkin County Ag Society. Concrete work in hog, sheep and swine pens and entrances to horse and cattle barns

  • Anoka County Fair. New cages and stands in the poultry building

  • Cass County Ag Association. Replace doors, pour concrete and re-tin the 4-H foodstand building

  • Cass County Ag Society — Pillager Fair. Repair roof joists and pillars in horse show pavilion

  • Chisago County Fair. Upgrade electric in horse barn

  • Cottonwood County Agricultural Society. Permanent gates in pavilion, fire extinguishers and no smoking signs

  • Crow Wing County Fair Association. Upgrade and install overhead lighting in livestock building

  • Dodge County 4-H. Purchase new rabbit and poultry cages and ceiling fans

  • Fair Association of Jackson County. New announcer stand building for 4-H horse arena

  • Houston County Agricultural Society. Purchase and install fans in hog building and horse barn

  • Lake County Agricultural Society Inc. Purchase and replace backing boards and hardware on box stalls in livestock barn

  • Martin County Fair. Replace vent doors in show arena and horse barn

  • Nicollet County Fair. Overhaul water line for dairy, beef and swine buildings

  • Olmsted County Fair. Purchase sound system for horse arena

  • Rice County 4-H. Repair leak in 4-H building rooftop, purchase pie case and replace seals on fridge and freezer

  • Rock County Fair. Install exhaust fans and update lights in livestock arena

  • Stearns County Fair. Replace dividers in livestock building

  • Steele County Agricultural Society. Repair and add additional electrical circuits to the 4-H dairy barn

  • Todd County Ag Society. Replace boards and repaint livestock barn, add cement floors for swine and retrofit horse stalls for cages and hanging brackets

  • Waseca County Fair. Repair ceiling in 4-H food stand

  • Washington County Agricultural Society. Bathroom upgrades

  • Winona County Fair. Purchase a barn fan for small livestock judging arena and goat barn and new rabbit cages

The Compeer Financial Fund for Rural America will offer this program again in March 2020.

Additional funds for General Use Grants totaling $160,000 are available through Compeer Financial’s Fund for Rural America. Applications for those grants will be accepted until May 31.

General Use Grants are used to fund programs and organizations whose work aligns with Compeer Financial’s mission of enriching agriculture and rural America.

Applications are evaluated based on their alignment with this mission, as well as one of the following focus areas:

  • Education. Educating young, beginning or future farmers

  • Environment. Maintaining or improving the quality of the rural environment

  • Technology. Supporting the advancement and use of technology for the benefit of farmers and rural communities

  • Quality of life. Programs or initiatives that enhance the quality of life for farmers and rural communities

Applicants located in Compeer Financial’s 144-county territory will be eligible to apply for up to $10,000 per year. For more information visit compeer.com/giving-back.
