Through numerous virtual gatherings, webinars, responsible planting sessions, socially distant garden and farm walks, and monument lightings, Pollinator Week 2020, June 22-28, is geared to be the busiest and best one yet.

“P2 (Pollinator Partnership) anticipates great things this week for pollinator health and discussions about how to support them," said Laurie Davies Adams, president and CEO of Pollinator Partnership. "Our approach of inclusiveness and collaboration is helping promote dialogue across all sectors of land management in North America.”

The Pollinator Partnership is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of pollinators. It started Pollinator Week in 2007.

EPA support

More than 30 governors and many mayors across the US and Canada have signed proclamations supporting the observance of Pollinator Week. In addition, for the first time in any administration, the EPA Administrator, Andrew Wheeler, has signed an agency-wide proclamation for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, joining Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue and Interior Secretary David Bernhardt.

“I am proud to join Secretary Perdue, Secretary Bernhardt and our state and local partners in reaffirming our commitment to promoting pollinator health," Wheeler said. "By doing so, we are protecting human health, the environment and our nation’s food supply.”

Three-fourths of the world’s flowering plants and about 35% of the world’s food crops depend on animal pollinators to reproduce. Yet, pollinator populations are on the decline due to many stressors, including pests, poor nutrition due to loss of habitat, unnecessary pesticide exposure, pathogens and viruses.
