Hamburger Farms, Seneca, S.D., has been named the 2010 Premier Seed Grower by the South Dakota Crop Improvement Association.

Brothers Phil and Elmer Hamburger have produced certified seed for more than 20 years.

"Their operation is truly a partnership between brothers, and their wives, Barb and Cecilia, help to keep the business going with excellence," says Neal Foster, SDCIA executive director. "They have more than earned this honor, and crop producers across South Dakota know their name is synonymous with top-notch seed."

In 1976 and 1980, each of the Hamburger brothers started farming. They bought a seed cleaner to condition seed for their own operations and a business grew from there.

"It's a … honor to receive this award," Phil says. "We feel privileged to earn it, but we intend to expand, and improve, as we go forward."
