The Titan/Goodyear and Georgia FFA Foundation Tire Auction will take place Tuesday, Oct. 19, and Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m. each day.

The location for the auction will be at the Titan/Goodyear exhibit. This year, the exhibit will be moving to location D-2 of the exhibit grounds — next to the Case IH equipment exhibit and near the station where the shuttle wagons leave for the crop fields.

Tires donated for the auction by Titan/Goodyear will range in application and will include tires for all terrain vehicles, combines, small tractors and logging equipment.

All tires will be auctioned as single items, and buyers will have the option of buying either one or a pair of tires. Terms include cash, check or credit card, as approved.

The auction is a great fundraiser for the Georgia FFA Foundation, according to Katrina Jones, executive director of the Georgia FFA Foundation.

She says more than $37,000 was raised for the FFA Foundation last year during the two-day tire auction. “Funds from the auction provide many opportunities for the young men and women involved in Georgia FFA.”

Funds from the tire auction support FFA members who excel in career development events and in supervised agricultural experience programs. In the career development events, the students compete as individuals and in teams.
The goals include developing individual responsibility, a respect for teamwork and communication skills. In the supervised agricultural experience programs, the FFA students either work for others or develop and manage their own enterprises.  

Very reasonable prices

“The Titan/Goodyear farm tires sold at the auction are new tires and are sold at very reasonable prices,” says Jones. “All proceeds from the auction benefit Georgia FFA, so when buyers purchase at the auction, they are making an investment in Georgia’s youth.”

The Georgia FFA Foundation is a non-profit organization that works to support agricultural education for more than 30,000 FFA members in Georgia. The primary goal of the Foundation is to fund all FFA award programs. More than 325 corporate and individual donors contribute to the Foundation each year.

“The Sunbelt Expo is also a great opportunity for the Georgia FFA members who visit each year,” says Jones. “At Expo, they can see what they have learned in the classroom and how it is applied in the field.”

The Titan/Goodyear tire auction to benefit Georgia FFA Foundation began at Expo in 2006. Based on its success, the auction was expanded to a two-day event at last year’s farm show.

This year, Titan has expanded its offerings of Goodyear OPTITRAC radial agricultural tires and has introduced new tires for combines, tractors, grain carts, sprayers and skid steers.

Expo visitors will be able to see other exhibits featuring agricultural tires and related products. For instance, Soucy International, Inc., will have an exhibit (location A-4) on its rubber track wheel systems for tractors, combines and sprayers.

Firestone Agricultural Tire Co., will also have an extensive display of its agricultural tires (location A-3). The company’s founder, Harvey S. Firestone, produced the first commercial tractor tire in 1932.

The company introduced a new line of tires earlier this year featuring advanced deflection design. These tires allow farmers to carry a load up to 20 percent greater than standard radial tires of the same size and are suggested for farmers who need to replace standard radial tires on large four-wheel-drive tractors.

Gensco Aircraft Tires will have an exhibit (location D-5) featuring tires originally designed for use on aircraft that can also be used in agricultural situations. These tires feature heavy ply tread and sidewall construction.

In Texas, these front tires on tractors help eliminate flats from penetrating mesquite and huisache thorns. Though not recommended for highway use, the tires perform well in fields when used on farm implements, mowers, wagons, scrapers and spreaders.

Other exhibitors include Southwest Multi-Seal (location Agribusiness Building-4) with a tire sealant designed to improve the performance of all agricultural tires.

Trelleborg Wheel Systems will have an exhibit (E-4) with its line of agricultural tires and tires suitable for use on forestry equipment.
Also, the Giant Rubber Water Tanks exhibit (Agribusiness Building-4) will feature eight-foot diameter rubber tires that have been recycled for use as water troughs and feed bunks for livestock.
