The 12th annual 2016 Gopher Dairy Camp will be held June 12-14 on the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus.

The camp is organized by Gopher Dairy Club and the Minnesota 4-H Dairy Project Committee.

The goal of the camp is to provide dairy youth the opportunity to strengthen their dairy knowledge and skills, as well as to network with other dairy youth that share their interests.

The camp is open to all youth that have completed grades 6 through 9 who have experience with dairy cattle.

The primary focus areas of the camp are calf selection, show ring preparation of dairy cattle and showmanship.  Campers have the opportunity to select a calf from the St. Paul dairy herd via the Gopher Gold Auction and prepare that calf for showing. Professional cattle fitters will be on-site for demonstrations and hands-on assistance in clipping and show ring preparation.

The 2016 camp features new activities, including a trip to CHS Baseball Field to watch the St. Paul Saints take on the Sioux City Explorers and a tour of Poplar Hill Dairy Goat Farm.

The camp registration fee is $90, which covers the cost of the dormitory, meals, and camp materials. Housing is in Bailey Hall.

The registration deadline is May 25.

Registration information has been dispersed to local extension offices and is also available on-line at http://z.umn.edu/gdcamp or by calling Nicole Krumrie at 320-296-8603.

The Gopher Dairy Club is the largest and most active student organization on the Twin Cities campus of the University of Minnesota, and its members are students that desire to actively promote the dairy industry through youth education, dairy judging, scholarship, leadership, professional development, and team-work.  For more information on the Gopher Dairy Club, please visit www.gopherdairyclub.umn.edu, and like them on Facebook!
