The 2008 Iowa Hereford Tour, sponsored by the Iowa Hereford Breeders Association, will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, in eastern Iowa.

The tour will begin at 9:30 a.m. at WEBCOWS, owned by the Deppe Brothers, 21938 150th St., Maquoketa. The four Deppes – Montana, Chance, Austin and Nick – have had considerable success in the showring. They had the reserve grand champion steer at the 2007 and 2008 Junior National Hereford Expos, the champion Hereford heifer in the 4-H show at the Iowa State Fair for the last three years; and the champion Hereford steer at this year's Iowa State Fair.

After viewing the Deppe herd, participants will gather at Buzzy's in Welton at approximately 11:15 a.m. for lunch and the IHBA's annual meeting, where four new directors will be elected and Dan McFarland of Fredericksburg will be inducted into the Iowa Hereford Hall of Fame.

The Brent Petersen family will host the afternoon's first stop at Petersen Herefords near DeWitt. Also on display will be cattle from the Arp family's Circle A Cattle Co., DeWitt. The group will then proceed to Maple Glen Farms, Princeton, where they will see the Ned Schroder family's Polled Hereford herd.

The tour will conclude near Walcott at Double K Herefords, owned by the Dennis Biddle family and home of the Iowa champion Polled Hereford bull at the 2008 Iowa State Fair. The public is invited to attend all or part of the tour. Door prizes will be awarded at each stop. For more directions or additional information, contact tour chairman Tena Biddle at 563-843-2595.
