The latest Arizona Agri-Weekly report from the National Agricultural Statistics Service Field Office in Phoenix, Ariz., released Aug. 29.

Field crops

Virtually all of Arizona’s cotton acreage has set bolls, the same as the five-year average and just ahead of last year. Boll opening is at 55 percent. Harvesting is underway in the Yuma area.

The condition of the cotton crop varies from mostly fair to excellent.

Alfalfa condition is mostly fair to excellent. Harvesting is active on over three-fourths of the acreage across the state.

Vegetable, fruit, and specialty crops

Arizona growers harvested miscellaneous melons.

Weather summary

Temperatures were well above normal for the week ending Aug. 28^th, ranging from four degrees above normal at Paloma, Parker, and Roll to 13 degrees above normal at Aguila.

The highest temperature of the week was 117 degrees at Phoenix. The lowest reading was 46 degrees at Grand Canyon.

Precipitation was recorded in 16 of the 22 weather stations. The least precipitation was recorded in Winslow with 0.02 inches. The most precipitation was recorded in Roll with 0.78 inches. Willcox and Roll are the only areas with above normal precipitation to date.
