The June 10 deadline is rapidly approaching for application to the Southeastern Grain and Feed Association’s annual scholarships, a program which has a long-standing history of helping students who are interesting in pursuing careers in agriculture.

The Southeastern Grain and Feed Association has been active in promoting more grain production in the Southeast over the years and once again is offering scholarships to deserving technical school and college students who want to study agriculture at the next academic level.

This year the Association will again award eight $2,000 scholarships to qualified applicants. Bonnie Holliman, who is executive director of the organization says, “We are excited and privileged that we can share our resources with young people who in a few short years, will be our leaders and entrepreneurs of tomorrow.”

The contributions received for the scholarship program come from SEGFA members and friends. The program has awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships during its 17-year existence.

During the program’s existence scholarships have gone to children and grandchildren of employees from 48 SEGFA member companies, covering 20 states, and representing 64 universities and technical schools.

Eligibility rules include:

• Employees, children and grandchildren of full-time employees of active members of the Southeastern Grain and Feed Association will be eligible;

• Eligible candidates must be enrolled as a student in an accredited college or technical school seeking a minimum level of Associates Degree;

• This scholarship will be given under and Equal Opportunity situation with no discrimination as to race, gender, religion, or age;

• Candidates will fill out an application form, available from your personnel office, and will also be required to write a brief essay (applicants are encouraged to complete the application online at segfa.org). The essay should be an original composition written exclusively for entry in the Southeastern Grain & Feed Association Scholarship Program. The essay should be no less that 350 words and no more than 700 words, typed and double spaced;

• Candidate must be enrolled as a minimum second year student with no less than a 2.5 GPA;

• Selection will be based on information from the applicant with consideration given to the field of study, goals, family and social activities, content and quality of the essay.
