The sudden shift from freezing temperatures to almost instantaneous 90-degree highs and then back to coat-wearing weather has had Central Valley grape growers jumping.
“I can’t tell you much right now about crop conditions,” says Randy Coolidge, PCA with Crop Production Services and a raisin grape grower near Selma, Calif. “We just don’t know — the bunch counts aren’t out yet.
“We’ve had some frost scares, but so far I don’t think it’s been bad enough to hurt the grapes. The one thing I will say is that I don’t think I’ve ever seen frost concerns that lasted so late in the season.”
