The 2010 Preseason (Winter) Vegetable Workshop will be held Aug. 31 at the University of Arizona (UA) Cooperative Extension office in Yuma, Ariz.
The program includes:

8:00 - “Update from the Arizona Department of Agriculture (ADA) Environmental Services Division” - Olga Lomeli, ADA
8:10 – “Developments in machine systems for thinning lettuce” - Mark Siemens, associate specialist and associate professor, UA Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering
8:40 – “Management update for lettuce diseases” - Mike Matheron, research specialist, UA Yuma Agricultural Center (YAC)
9:10 - Break
9:20 – “Updates and pest control announcements from industry”
9:30 – “Weed management update for desert vegetables” - Barry Tickes, area agricultural agent, YAC
10:00 – “The detection and quantification of pesticides in plants and soil” - Kurt Nolte, agricultural agent, UA Yuma County Cooperative Extension
10:30 – “Insecticide use and development for desert vegetables” - John Palumbo, research entomologist, YAC
11:00 – “Phosphorus management for desert vegetable crops” - Charles Sanchez, professor, soil, water, and environmental science, YAC
11:30 – “Latest developments on soil fumigation in Arizona” - Randy Norton, agricultural agent, UA Safford Agricultural Station
