Virginia cotton growers schedule Feb. 20 meeting

The Ninth Annual Virginia Cotton Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at the Regional Workforce Development Center, Paul D. Camp Community College in Franklin, Va.

Registration will take place from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. and will conclude with lunch. This year a special cotton marketing seminar will take place immediately after lunch.

Organized by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Virginia Cotton Growers Association, Virginia Cotton Board, Virginia Cooperative Extension, and the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation, this event includes the Annual Meetings of the Virginia Cotton Growers Association and the Virginia Boll Weevil Eradication Foundation, as well as an economics and marketing meeting.

John Robinson, associate professor and Extension economist for cotton marketing at Texas A&M University will present the Cotton Marketing Situation and Outlook for 2008. After lunch Robinson will present a special Cotton Marketing Seminar similar to those he presents across Texas.

David Ruppernicker, vice-president with the Southern Cotton Growers, will also present the latest on the farm bill.

The registration fee for the meeting is $5.00 per person in advance or $10.00 at the door and includes lunch by Bill Ellis Barbecue. Send pre-registrations prior to Feb. 15, 2008 to Virginia Cotton Growers Association, P.O. Box 27552, Richmond, Va., 23261 with checks payable to the VCGA, Inc.
