Indigo Agriculture is now making an offer for U.S. wheat growers to join its 2020 winter wheat program, which is designed to increase overall profitability for U.S. wheat growers who follow its protocol for either hard red or soft red winter wheat.

New to this year’s offer is the opportunity for U.S. wheat growers to apply Indigo’s microbiome technology to any seed variety of their choosing. The company will work with seed providers for local distribution.

Growers can select a complete solution of microbiome technology, digital agronomy, grain quality testing, Indigo Marketplace and Indigo Transport. The 2020 Indigo Certified Wheat offer enables farmers with 50 bushel per acre average production history to earn up to an additional $59 per acre through Indigo’s solutions. The program can be configured to meet each grower’s specific needs.

Indigo’s microbiome technology has been shown to improve crop resiliency in the face of environmental stress, such as drought. Its microbiome coatings, derived from nature and improved through machine learning, can also reduce the need for added inputs.

Last year, Indigo Certified Wheat demonstrated a median yield gain of 12.7% across approximately 40,000 commercial acres when compared to neighboring fields. The quality of those harvests improved as well, with a protein increase of 1.1% over county averages.

Lee Jost, a wheat grower out of Texas, grew Indigo Wheat last season. As for his experience with Indigo, he said, “I would say try Indigo. I was skeptical but decided to try it. In a bad growing season, Indigo Wheat stood out and looked good — more prolific, greener, vigorous. I planted non-Indigo wheat just a half a mile away and it didn’t do anything.”

Beyond yield uplifts generated from microbiome technology, Indigo’s approach includes data-driven agronomics, and the option to sell grain through Indigo Marketplace, an ecommerce platform that has logged more than $30 billion in demand from buyers to date. Growers signed up for the 2020 Indigo Certified Wheat offer stand to earn up to $22 per acre when selling through Indigo Marketplace, which is within the $59 per acre earning potential.

“Indigo is working to improve grower profitability by decreasing input costs, increasing yields and enabling the farmer to earn more for their crop,” says David Perry, Indigo CEO. “This 2020 Winter Wheat offer provides the farmer with flexibility to pursue any mix of these capabilities.”
