Western Farm Press in developing the free courses on-line.

The initial course, which should be up after Jan. 1, will be for credit in the laws and regulations category. It will focus on the new groundwater regulations now in the final stages of approval at the California Department of Pesticide Regulation.

These new regulations will cover vastly more crop acreage in California than the current groundwater protection regulations called pest management zones (PMZ) and are designed to protect the state’s groundwater supply from contaminants.

The free on-line course agreement between Bayer CropScience and Western Farm Press was announced during the recent annual California Association of Pest Control Advisers in Reno, Nev.

California’s 4,000 licensed pest control advisers are required to accumulate at least 40 hours of approved continuing education every two years before license renewal. A minimum of four of the 40 hours must include the topic of pesticide and pest control laws and regulations.

The Western Farm Press on-line program will be the first free Web site for continuing education offered to PCAs. For more information, click on the “California Pest Control Advisors Continuing Education Courses” logo on the Westernfarmpresscom home page.
