The Nebraska Grain Sorghum Producers Association (NeGSPA) and Grain Sorghum Board recently announced the 2016 Sorghum Symposium will be held January 21, 2016 at the Midtown Holiday Inn at 2503 South Locust Street in Grand Island. Registration starts at 9 a.m.

TIMELY INFORMATION: "Farmers are making decisions now for the 2016 crop," adds Duane Sugden of Sterling, Chairman of the Grain Sorghum Board. "This program is designed to provide farmers information they can apply immediately to their operations."

The Sorghum Symposium will provide timely and useful information to help sorghum farmers make confident, informed production and management decisions for their operations. "Whether an experienced sorghum grower or someone new to sorghum production, the program has something to offer," says Don Bloss of Pawnee City, President of NeGSPA. "Demand for sorghum is on the rise around the world," he added. "That growing demand offers diverse market opportunities for U.S. sorghum producers."

On the agenda
Program presentations include a weather outlook from Al Dutcher, UNL Climatologist. Dr. Brent Bean, Agronomist for the United Sorghum Checkoff Program will discuss how to manage sorghum for peak performance. Dan Gillespie, No-till Specialist, USDA-NRCS will address the importance of improving soil health. Chuck Burr, UNL Extension Educator, West Central Research and Extension Center will discuss sorghum production under limited irrigation. The program's keynote speaker, Mike Shields, INTL FCStone, Omaha, will give an analyses of market dynamics. Jesse McCurry, USCP Field Representative will give an overview of all things sorghum in his "Spotlight on Sorghum."

The program will close with the annual membership meeting and an update report by the NeGSPA. All sorghum growers and invited to attend.

The United Sorghum Checkoff Program is recognized as a major sponsor toward the program.
