Growers have access to more Bollgard II® XtendFlex® cotton variety selections in 2016, giving them the chance not only to plant elite germplasm with high yield potential, but also to employ a more flexible weed control system.
Deltapine® Bollgard II® XtendFlex® varieties offer tolerance to Roundup® brand glyphosate-only agricultural herbicides and Liberty® herbicide, providing the ability to use additional sites of action for more effective weed control. The addition of Liberty herbicide to the Roundup Ready PLUS® Crop Management Solutions recommendation for cotton provides another tool for managing tough-to-control weeds to farmers.
Four Key Steps for Weed Management in Bollgard II XtendFlex Cotton:
Start clean with a burndown herbicide or tillage.
Apply residual herbicides that control the weeds in your fields.
Tank-mix Roundup PowerMAX® II herbicide or Liberty herbicide with other herbicides to control the weeds in your field.
Always use full rates of recommended herbicides.
Deltapine Bollgard II XtendFlex varieties available for planting in the Mid-South offer a range of maturities. The outstanding performance of each variety was proven by farmers in the New Product Evaluator (NPE) Program, and many of them topped university, county agent and other trials across the Mid-South during last season, the launch year:
DP 1518 B2XF out-yielded ST 4946GLB2 by 53 lb/acre*
DP 1522 B2XF out-yielded ST 4946GLB2 by 69 lb/acre*
“Farmers can plant Deltapine cotton varieties with confidence because they are NPE tested and NPE proven,” said Keylon Gholston, Deltapine cotton products manager. “Deltapine varieties can offer clean fields, strong yield potential and improved fiber quality in 2016.”
Since it began in 2008, the Deltapine NPE Program has become the cotton industry’s premier field evaluation program, resulting in the commercialization of some of the top-planted varieties by growing region across the Belt. Bollgard II® XtendFlex® cotton contains genes that confer tolerance to glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup® brand agricultural herbicides, dicamba, the active ingredient in M1691, and glufosinate, the active ingredient in Liberty® brand herbicides. Roundup® brand agricultural herbicides will kill crops that are not tolerant to glyphosate. Dicamba will kill crops that are not tolerant to dicamba. Glufosinate will kill crops that are not tolerant to glufosinate. Contact your Monsanto dealer or refer to Monsanto’s Technology Use Guide for recommended Roundup Ready® Xtend Crop System weed control programs.
DO NOT APPLY DICAMBA HERBICIDE IN-CROP TO Bollgard II XtendFlex Cotton in 2016 unless a dicamba herbicide product is approved that is specifically labeled for that use in the location where you intend to make the application. Contact the U.S. EPA and your state pesticide regulatory agency with any questions about the approval status of dicamba herbicide products for in-crop use with Bollgard II XtendFlex Cotton.
IT IS A VIOLATION OF FEDERAL AND STATE LAW TO MAKE AN IN-CROP APPLICATION OF ANY DICAMBA HERBICIDE PRODUCT ON BOLLGARD II XTENDFLEX COTTON UNLESS THE PRODUCT LABELING SPECIFICALLY AUTHORIZES THAT USE.
Individual results may vary. Always read and follow IRM, where applicable, grain marketing and all other stewardship practices and pesticide label directions.
