MRC committed to completing the Mississippi River, Tributaries project.

Mississippi River Commissioners say finishing the last 11 percent is important to economies of the Lower Mississippi Valleys.

In case there were any doubts, the Mississippi River Commission is committed to finish all of the Mississippi River and Tributaries program, including the Upper Yazoo Basin Project, says MRC member R.D. James.

James, a producer and ginner from New Madrid, Mo., who is under consideration for being named Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, says current efforts such as the Flow-Line Study are aimed at making the MRT System better.

“But, in no way, will we allow it to stand in the way of completing the Mississippi River and Tributaries Project,” James said, during the MRC’s annual High Water Inspection Trip’s stop in Greenville, Miss. James, Major General Michael Wehr and the Delta Council’s Chip Morgan participated in the exchange in this audio from the MRC’s Greenville hearing.
