The public comment period for the draft Lake Erie Adaptive Management Plan has been extended until June 19, in accordance with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ recommendations designed to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

The goal is to ensure that residents who are interested have ample opportunity to offer their views on the draft plan, including at a public information meeting in early June. All previous comment period deadlines should be ignored.

The adaptive management plan — a companion document to the 2018 Michigan Lake Erie Domestic Action Plan — describes the status of water quality in Michigan’s portion of the Lake Erie basin and includes a list of planning and implementation actions the state will take to achieve nutrient reduction targets set through the binational Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement process.

Comments on the draft adaptive management plan can be emailed to [email protected], or mailed to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy; Water Resources Division; Attn: Lake Erie AM DAP, P.O. Box 30458, Lansing, MI 48909.

Request a hard copy of the plan by emailing Kimberly Passick at [email protected] or calling 517-284-5053.

A public information meeting will be held in early June, with more details to come.
