Versatile Valtra A Series built for power, torque, agility

North American livestock and crop producers' options in versatility and efficiency have just been enhanced with the introduction of the economical Valtra A Series tractors.

With three models in the popular 70 to 100 horsepower range, a tight turning radius and a front/rear weight ratio ideal for loader balance, the new tractors are perfect for use around livestock facilities. Their low weight to power ratio makes them equally suited for use in hay production and other crops where compaction is a concern.

Runs smooth, quiet

“The Valtra A Series is designed to be the loader and baler tractor that livestock producers have been looking for,” says Tom Weir, general marketing manager, Valtra. “It runs smooth and quiet with a broad torque curve for power when you need it. Best of all, it is value priced with basic features and an option list that insures every tractor is built-to-order. Customers can even select a custom-designed Valtra front loader and have it fitted at the factory.”

The advanced engineering of the turbocharged SisuDiesel engines lets “A” Series operators get maximum power and torque at lower rpm with less noise, lower fuel consumption and reduced maintenance. Based on ISO 14396, an internationally recognized standard, the 3-cylinder A75 produces 74 engine hp (54 kW), the 4-cylinder A85 produces 88 engine hp (65 kW) and the 4- cylinder A95 produces 98 engine hp (72 kW).

Plenty of power

The SisuDiesel engine equipped Valtra A Series delivers torque across the power range, reaching maximum levels at only 1,400 rpm. At that engine speed, operators can draw on 219 foot pounds with the A75, 238 foot pounds with the A85 and 264 foot pounds with the A95.

The Fortius model engine features wet cylinder liners for more power and mid-cylinder supports for 75 percent less vibration and less wear. SisuDiesel engines are famous for their legendary quality control, and the Fortius is no exception. Each one carries the name of the craftsman who built it over a two-day period. The results of quality design and manufacture are apparent in its operating efficiency.

“The new Fortius engines build on the SisuDiesel reputation for dependability and efficiency,” says Stuart Maxwell, sales engineer, Valtra. “They reduce operating costs with 5 percent to 7 percent savings on fuel and 10 percent to 20 percent more torque. Not only are maintenance costs reduced by one third with service intervals extended to 500 hours, but engine life is also extended.”

While power and torque are vital, agility is also important, especially when it comes to loader work around livestock facilities. The “A” Series offers a tight turning radius and a rugged 12F × 12R transmission that is fully synchronized for smooth and easy changes in speed and direction. All three models are equipped with mechanical forward and reverse shuttle and are available with a push-button clutch control and left hand or right hand placement of the shuttle lever for operator ease.

The transmission features three ranges with four main gears, including creeper gears. Add the optional HiShift button-operated clutch control for even easier gear change and repetitive direction changes.

HiShift replaces depressing the clutch pedal with a press of the button. The electronic action is smoother than manual clutching and easier on both transmission and clutch pack, further extending their life while reducing driver fatigue.

All three models are available in two-wheel drive and with mechanical front wheel drive (MFWD). Electro hydraulic MFWD activation is standard. Rear differential lock (front differential is fully automatic) is engaged and disengaged with the flick of a switch.

Exceptional value

“A” Series hydraulics offer exceptional value and options for their class, including two remote valves standard and the option of two more. A 14.5 gpm (55 l/m) pump provides plenty of power for the lifting capacity of 6,173 pounds (28 kN) or 7,275 pounds (33 kN) with the optional auxiliary lifting cylinder.

Electronically controlled Autocontrol lift linkage is also available, another premium option in this tractor class. The rear 3-point hitch lifts 7,260 pounds (3296 kg), and if equipped, the front mounted 3-point hitch will lift up to 6,393 pounds (2,902 kg) on the A85 and A95.

“The Valtra A Series really stacks up well against competitive brands,” says Weir. “We offer a bigger engine, more working hydraulics, front and rear differential locks and hydraulic wet disc brakes with automatic engagement of four-wheel drive for four-wheel braking, all standard. Add the proven, dependable transmission and shuttle with HiShift option, and you are getting a great package for your money.”

The A Series is not just a hard working tractor; it is also comfortable with air ride seats and the Valtra tradition of reduced noise level engineering. Choose from three cab designs, all offering excellent visibility, thanks in part to placement of the exhaust column on the right corner of the cab.

Cab options

Cab options include a standard cab, a reduced height cab and a wider (interior dimensions) cab. All three offer a seat that rotates to the right 25 degrees for easy viewing of trailing implements or 180 degrees for operating rear-mounted equipment such as a backhoe. Large doors allow easy access, and all the main controls are ergonomically located for easy reach.

“Like all Valtras, the A Series gives customers the opportunity to design a tractor to truly fit their operation and needs,” says Weir. “Valtra's built-to-order tractors are now matched with access to AGCO Parts and Service, giving customers a superior level of service support and parts access. And of course, built-to-order means even choosing the color — red, blue, green or yellow — in regular or optional metallic paint.”
