The Irrigators Association of Minnesota is planning its summer field day Aug. 11 at Stoney Brook Farm near Foley, Minn.

The irrigated fresh vegetable farm is operated by Mark and Brad Chmielewski and their families. New irrigation technologies and irrigated crops will be showcased.

Crops grown include sweet corn, asparagus, sugar peas, green beans, squash and pumpkins, and are marketed through various wholesale outlets and locally through stores such as Lunds & Byerlys, and Coborn’s.

The field day starts at 9:30 a.m. at Jack and Jim’s restaurant at 11025 Duelm Road NE, Foley.

Speakers include Thom Peterson, Minnesota agricultural commissioner; Mark Koch from Compeer Ag Lending; and Jake Bauerly, former Benton County commissioner.

Food industry representatives, including Coborn’s and vegetable processors, will also talk about the importance of being able to source irrigated crops.

Attendees will travel by motorcoach to see different field operations and return to the restaurant for a noon dinner.

Legislators, representatives from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and anyone interested in irrigated agriculture in Minnesota are invited to attend.
