Honeydew harvest operates during a 12-week window about this time each year in the southern Sacramento Valley.

Fisher Ranch alternates growing melons in the southern Sacramento Valley and the desert region in and around Blythe, Calif.

On this particular day Farm Press cameras caught crews harvesting honeydews near Knights Landing, a flat region known mostly for its rice production along the Sacramento River.

Some of the melons were harvested for packing in a small packing shed adjacent to the river while other crews were field packing melons for shipment to customers as trucks with refrigerated trailers filled the lot at the packing shed waiting for a dock assignment and loading.

One of the trucks loading melons was destined for markets in eastern Canada.
