Field crops

Alfalfa conditions remain mostly fair to good depending on the location. Harvest has picked up and is occurring on three-quarters of the growing areas across Arizona.

Cotton planting remains active in the western part of the state.

Vegetable, fruit, and specialty crops

Central Arizona growers shipped broccoli, cabbage, kale greens, cilantro, parsley, and citrus.

Western Arizona growers shipped broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, cilantro, Chinese cabbage, endive, escarole, frisee, kale greens, Boston, green leaf, iceberg, red leaf, romaine, and other lettuces. Also shipped were arugula, bok choy, parsley, radicchio, spinach, and citrus.

Weather summary

Temperatures were mostly above normal for the week ending March 18, ranging from 12 degrees above normal at Grand Canyon to 3 degrees below normal at Paloma, Parker, and Roll.

The highest temperature of the week was 88 degrees at Roll and Coolidge. The lowest reading was 15 degrees at Grand Canyon.

Precipitation was recorded in 14 of the 21 weather stations. Yuma received the least at 0.01 inches. The Grand Canyon area received the most at 1.07 inches.

Every weather station has received precipitation in 2012.
