Valor Herbicide 2(ee) restrictions reduced

Valent U.S.A. Corporation has announced a Valor Herbicide 2(ee) label from the Environmental Protection Agency within Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Oklahoma. The 2(ee) reduces the bark restrictions for cotton farmers in these states and allows more application flexibility when they use Valor at layby.

With the new 2(ee), Valor can be applied when bark is 2 inches tall and the cotton is 16 inches tall. Previously, Valor's label indicated that applications be made when the cotton had 4-inch bark and was 18 inches tall.

A similar 2(ee) has been in place for two years in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

According to John Pawlak, Valent product development manager, the more lenient restrictions have proven successful for farmers in those states and will be important to Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Oklahoma farmers fighting tough — and increasingly resistant — weeds.

“When we apply Valor at 2 inches of bark and 16 inches of cotton, we see really strong results in our field tests and in those Southeastern states that have the 2(ee) for Valor,” Pawlak said. “The 2(ee) will allow cotton farmers in these states to get into the field earlier to provide the residual control they need for problem weeds such as morningglory, pigweed, lambsquarters and marestail.”

Valor provides residual control of tough annual broadleaf weeds and grasses in front of soybeans, cotton and peanuts, cotton layby, as well as early preplant burndown in front of wheat, sorghum, corn and rice. Valor also gives growers flexibility due to few restrictions in terms of crop rotation. In addition, Valor's active ingredient, flumioxazin, is an ideal resistant-management tool for farmers.
