Tractors go Global

The South Korean manufacturer TYM has boosted horsepower in its utility tractor line with the new T series. The trend among manufacturers is to build high-horsepower models even among compact and utility lines.

Powerful utility tractors

NEW HOLLAND introduced two new utility tractor lines at the show. The new T5000 series features tractor models that range from 70 to 96 PTO hp and cost from $28,000 to $50,000. Tractors in the T5000 series are built for heavy-duty loader work, with their 12 × 12 synchro command, and for operating hay tools, mowers, feed wagons and mixers. The engines are turbocharged and intercooled.

Models in the T4000 series range from 64 to 95 hp with turbocharged and intercooled engines. These vehicles are geared for farm operations that need a lot of power in a small tractor for easy maneuverability. Prices range from $24,000 to $45,000.

MASSEY FERGUSON introduced a new series of mid-range tractors at the show. The eight models in the 5400 series range from the 5435 with 60 PTO hp to the 5480 with 115 PTO hp. The 5400 series features a new design that offers easy access under the hood for maintenance. The tractors are equipped with either a Perkins or SisuDiesel engine and a choice of two transmissions — the Dyna-4 power shuttle or the mechanical Speedshift. The company designed the series to be versatile and geared for the heavy loader work required on dairy and beef operations.

Retail prices range from $45,000 for the 5435 model to $75,000 for the 5480. Contact AGCO Corp., Dept. FIN, 4205 River Green Pkwy., Duluth, GA 30096, 800/767-3221, visit or, watch a video about the tractors at (click on “2008 NFMS, Show Floor Videos”), or circle 102.
