Corn+Soybean Digest

Two practical books about maintaining harvested grain in storage are available from MWPS at Iowa State University.

Managing Dry Grain in Storage, Second Edition (AED-20), explains what causes grain to go out of condition and tells how to manage grain to prevent storage problems. It focuses on cylindrical storage structure but offers principles of grain storage management that apply to all types of storage, contained or open, in structures or on the ground. It emphasizes maintenance of grain at initial storage moisture and does not address intentional drying or rewetting of grain (2004, 24 pp., 8 ½ x 11, illustrated, self-cover, AED-20, $8.00 plus shipping/handling).

Dry Grain Aeration Systems Design Handbook, Revised Edition (MWPS-29), provides guidelines for selecting, sizing, locating, and evaluating grain aeration systems. Bulleted lists, 46 illustrations, 20 tables, 20 examples, and four appendixes of additional information supplement the thorough description. (1999/ reprinted 2004, 88 pp., 8 1/2 x 11, illustrated, softcover, MWPS-29, 258.00 plus shipping/handling. This book is also available as a download on the MWPS website: ).
