When you head to the dealership to buy a new heavy duty pickup these days you may be just as concerned about how your smart phone works with the machine as you are about hauling ability. Everyone can add big engines, tall tires, enhanced hitches and other options to get work done, but the big 3 are also looking at tech tools they can add to make your life in the "office in the field" better.

General Motors is pushing the envelope with its OnStar 4G LTE broadband connection. The connection allows you, and guests in the car, to have Web access. At one time there was talk about cupholder proliferation, perhaps the next complaint from car enthusiasts will be the rise of USB ports for charging items. The new Chevy Silverado HD, for example, has multiple USB ports, four auxiliary power outlets and an available 110-volt outlet. Some models even have wireless charging capability.

We've rounded up some interesting tech items in this gallery from heavy duty pickups from Ford and General Motors. The folks at Ram are concentrating on raw power and fuel economy and getting the job done, but beyond their standard connectivity with good Bluetooth support, there's little to talk about at this time. So we look at some new items from Ford and Chevy (by the way the same tools are offered for GMC HD pickups too).
