GO BLUE: The new special edition Ram 1500 Hydro Blue truck is the latest, and last, special edition machine to be launched by the brand in 2017. This truck has blue inside and out.

The folks at Ram Trucks like their special colors. Over the past few years they've launched their fair share of unique color and option packages, and they keep on doing it. We've featured a few of them including a roundup earlier in 2017, and more recently their Texas launch of new Longhorn series machines. And now the company is going blue.

For this new 1500 Hydro Blue edition, the company is taking a monochromatic view - including the front grill - which gives it a standout appearance. According to its product release, this is the final special-edition Sport the Ram brand will offer this year. And like the others, the Hydro Blue is a standout package.

Mike Manley, in a press statement rolling out the trucks, noted that the custom look and high-impact colors have been well received in the market. "Enthusiasts demand that their trucks get noticed and our Ram 1500 Sport lineup delivers a durable, powerful alternative with great visual appeal." Manley is head of Jeep and Ram Brands.

Ram has been a perennial third-place truck marketer historically, but during 2017 the brand saw more sales increases and in fact has surpassed Chevy in some monthly truck sales reports. The brand continues to grow market share.

Building on the base 1500 Ram truck model, this special edition features a black-decaled Sport performance hood, and a new-for-2018 body-colored sport grill with black inserts and a black Ram letter badge. There's also flat black exterior body side and tailgate badging.

The truck rides on polished 22-inch aluminum wheels on 4x2 models; and polished 20-inch wheels are standard on 4x4 models.

For blue lovers, the interior steps up as well with color-matched highlight stitching on the instrument panel, heated steering wheel and door trim. There are also blue embroidery accents on the high-back, black, bucket, heated seats with mesh inserts. The familiar Ram's head logo flanks the headrests. And to add more blue, the designers used blue anodized surfaces that cover the instrument panel bezels, center console trim and door spears. Full leather seating and trim is an option.

HYDRO HIGHLIGHTS: The Ram 1500 Hydro Blue pickup has a distinctive interior where the color blue is basically everywhere. Only 2,000 Ram trucks with this special edition color will be made.

Other options include 22-inch (4x2 only) and 20-inch gloss black aluminum wheels (shown above), black tubular side steps, chrome wheel-to-wheel side steps, Active Level air suspension, ParkSense and the Rambox storage system.

Production of this special edition will be limited to 2,000 trucks and carry a base manufacturers suggested retail price of $46,060, plus $1,395 destination charge.

This Hydro Blue pearl coat paint option is available on Ram 1500 Sport crew cab, short-bed body styles with the 5.7 liter Hemi V-8 engine. Both two- and four-wheel drive models are available. The truck goes on sale in November.
