The National Agricultural Statistics Service estimates California almond acreage last year was a record 940,000 acres – 840,000 bearing and 100,000 non-bearing.
The total is 1 percent (10,000 acres) higher than the 2012 acreage of 930,000 acres.
NASS guestimates 2014 bearing acreage could total 860,000 acres.
Last year, Nonpareil was the leading variety acreage wise, followed by Butte, Monterey, Carmel, and Padre.
Kern, Fresno, Stanislaus, Merced, and Madera were the top producing counties, respectively, with 74 percent of the statewide bearing acreage.
