A leading University of California entomologist, the San Joaquin Valley’s “Almond Doctor,” and a commercial harvest operator will outline valuable mid-summer farming tips for almond growers during a July 14 field day in Firebaugh, Calif.

The field day is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon at the Chris Cardella Ranch, Avenue 7 and Road 6. Experts will cover the latest information about hull rot, when to cut off irrigation, shaker damage, detecting late-season mites and navel orangeworm, reducing volatile organic compound emissions and harvesting and scheduling.

Featured speakers will be Walt Bentley, University of California Integrated Pest Management specialist; David Doll, a UC Cooperative Extension farm advisor in Merced County and creator of the Almond Doctor blog; and Sam Weis of MSM Almond Services.
