As the world was quickly forced to become virtual amidst COVID-19 restrictions, the Almond Board of California will take its large event to the World Wide Web this year and forego its live gathering of about 4,000 in downtown Sacramento, Calif.

The annual event, slated each year for early December, has been a popular event for much of the California almond industry since it began in 1970. Of those who attend, roughly 25 percent are almond growers. The rest are processors, allied industry and researchers. The large trade show that accompanies the event draws about 250 unique companies that offer goods and services to a global industry.

The virtual platform will allow for a more global reach, according to Almond Board President and Chief Executive Richard Waycott.

Waycott says the virtual setting will allow the Almond Board to attract top notch speakers from around the globe without concerns of the time commitment for travel and speaking in person. Educational sessions will be recorded, allowing a world audience to view the information on their own schedule.
