The Almond Board of California (ABC) has set Jan. 20, 2011 as the deadline for filing nomination petitions for one independent grower member and alternate position on its board of directors.

Each candidate must be a grower and submit a petition signed by at least 15 independent growers of almonds (verified by the ABC) to be considered for the position. The petition must state the position for which the candidate is nominated and must be filed with the Almond Board of California located at 1150 Ninth St., Suite 1500, Modesto, Calif. 95354.

Two independent handler members and alternate positions are also available. Handlers must declare their candidacy in writing to the ABC by Jan. 20 for names to be placed on the ballot.

One cooperative handler member and alternate nominee, plus one cooperative grower member and alternate nominee will be selected through their cooperative associations.

The Almond Board of California is the agency established to administer the federal marketing order for almonds. The Board assures industry compliance with marketing order regulations and is responsible for administering the marketing order.

The ABC serves the almond industry in other major areas including production research, generic advertising and public relations, and the accumulation, compilation, and dissemination of statistical information.
